North Tahoe golf | Fenley fourth after first round of state tournement

North Tahoe sits in third place out of six schools after Day 1 of the Class 2A Nevada State High School Boys Golf Championship tournament in Genoa on Monday.

Whittell leads the field after the first round, with a team score of 422. Sage Ridge is right on the Warriors’ heels, at 423, while North Tahoe came in at 430. Lake Mead (460), White Pine (468) and Needles (477) round out the scores.

Foster Kenton of Mineral County leads individually, carding a 75 on the 6,050-yard, par-72 Genoa Lakes Golf Course. Jordan Wright of Incline and Trevor Fairbank of Whittell are tied for second, each with a 76.

North Tahoe sophomore Justin “Buster” Fenley shot the best first round among the Lakers, firing a 77 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place with Sage Ridge’s Jens Verhey and Dylan Turner.

Laker teammate Travis Boerner shot an 81 and Connor Whaley an 84. Daniel Longo and Trevor Semmens each posted 94s and Eliot Headley a 104.

The state tournament continues Tuesday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course at Stateline.
