North Tahoe golf | Kriston gains state championship experience

Zachary Kriston represented the Lakers well in the Division III state golf championship at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump last Wednesday and Thursday.

Kriston, who qualified for state at the Northern Division III regional championship at Edgewood Tahoe the previous week, posted a two-day score of 183, which tied him for 26th in a field of 47 golfers. He shot a 97 on Day 1 and 86 on Day 2.

Chris Young of White Pine claimed the individual state title with a 149, carding a 73 and 76. Needles took the team championship with a low score of 841.

Battle Mountain finished second with a score of 867 and White Pine was third at 890, followed by Lake Mead (891), Incline (906) and Whittell (912).

Incline sophomore Mitchell Cornell finished runner-up individually for the second straight year. He posted a low second-day score of 71, after carding a 79 on Day 1, to finish just one stroke behind Young, at 150.

Ty Pickel of White Pine was third with a 154 (81, 73). Calvary Chapel’s Jett Isoda (156) was fourth and Incline’s Dylan Smith (157) was fifth.

The top three teams from the regional tournament and the top five individuals from non-qualifying teams advanced to state.
