North Tahoe golf: Lakers tangle with top league teams

EAGLE VALLEY GOLF COURSE ” The Lakers mixed it up with the top four Northern 2A teams at a league tournament in Carson City this past Thursday.

Incline won the tourney with a team score of 396. Whittell took second place with a 414, and was followed by Battle Mountain with 435 and North Tahoe with 457.

Hawthorne and ROP did not have enough golfers to record team scores.

The Lakers could have finished third in the tournament with a score of 430 had they not made a mistake turning in their scorecards.

Alex Griffith shot a 75 but was disqualified because his signed scorecard (kept by another opponent) had the wrong score written on one hole. Had he had totaled up the score himself he would have cought the error, but the card was turned in and signed.

The mistake cost him second place individually, finishing behind Incline’s Justin Holets, who posted a 70.

But, as North Tahoe head coach Dick Tomlinson pointed out, “(It’s) better to have learned the lesson in a relatively less important match than at zone or state.”

Travis Boerner shot an 82 for North Tahoe and was followed by teammates Craig Munro (85), Connor Whaley (90), Andrew Hill (98), and Addison Granger (102).

The top three Northern 2A teams go to state at Genoa Lakes and Edgewood on May 19 and 20.
