North Tahoe hoops: Lakers drop league games at Battle Mountain

The Laker boys and girls basketball teams both dropped their second league games of the season at Battle Mountain on Saturday.

Freshman Elizabeth Buhler and sophomore Irene Rojas led the Laker girls with nine points apiece in a 61-40 loss, while Monica Estrada and Samantha Jeffers each had six points for North Tahoe.

The girls then followed with a 63-38 nonleague loss at Portola (Calif.) on Monday. Rojas led North Tahoe offensively with 11 points. Jeffers added 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Estrada finished with 12 rebounds and a double-digit assist total.

The Lakers are now 3-9 on the season, and 0-2 in Northern 2A league play.

and#8220;It’s been a very tough season for the North Tahoe Laker women,and#8221; said head coach Scott Conn. and#8220;But we’re starting to do some things well and showing improvement.

and#8220;If we can eliminate our turnovers and mental errors, we’ll be a team to be reckoned with in the second half.and#8221;

Conn said he was impressed with the play of the young Buhler, who is and#8220;starting to blossomand#8221; as she becomes accustomed to the speed at the varsity level.

The Laker boys lost 57-33 at Battle Mountain, and are now 3-6 overall and 0-2 league.
