The North Tahoe lacrosse team is on fire.

The Lakers extended their win streak to eight games with strong wins against Galena, 13-9, and McQueen, 18-3, in recent High Sierra Lacrosse League play.

With the exception of an early-season loss to Galena, the 8-1 club team has been on a tear, averaging a whopping 14 goals per game.

“The team has performed very well considering we have been plagued by the flu and injuries,” said coach Brett McCann. “It seems no matter who we send on the field, our players have risen to the occasion and have performed well. It has been a true team effort.”

Offensively, Chase Whitney, Justin Wadsworth and Tanner Quenneville have led the way. All three are at or near the top in all league offensive categories.

The team also has played solid defense all season, allowing an average of four goals per game. Sophomore goalie Luk Taylor continues to impress, compiling a 6:50 goal save percentage.

The Laker squad is getting healthy just in time for a huge matchup against undefeated rival Bishop Manogue. The game will feature the second- and third-ranked teams in the state, which is the highest state ranking ever for the two Northern Nevada programs.

“The Miners are very well coached,” McCann said. “This should be a great game. Possibly the biggest game to date for the young Laker team.”
