North Tahoe softball: Lakers take down Highlanders for final playoff seed
SPARKS, Nev. ” North Tahoe defeated Incline 15-4 in Monday’s one-game tiebreaker to earn the fourth and final Northern 2A playoff seed.
The teams finished the regular season this past weekend with the same 5-7 league record after splitting their doubleheader on April 25.
Senior co-captain Christina Lane, who pitched the Lakers to victory in the teams’ first meeting, again got the better of the Highlanders, throwing a complete game with five strikeouts and three walks at the neutral site in Sparks.
“Christina did a fantastic job,” said North Tahoe head coach Richard Mesa. “She really, really battled well.”
She had plenty of support, as the Lakers smacked 15 hits in the game. They were led by a 3-for-4 day at the plate by Mealani Mesa, who added three RBIs. Tara Turpin also was 3 for 4, Hilary Stoner 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Lane 2 for 3 and Shannon Stack 2 for 2. Shea Mesa contributed two RBIs.

Second-seeded Silver Stage and third-seeded Lovelock play the same day at noon. Losers of the first-round games play each other at 2 p.m., while the winners face off at 4 p.m. The tournament continues on Saturday, with games scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon.
The top two finishers from the Northern and Southern regional tournaments qualify for the state championship, scheduled for May 22-23 in Las Vegas.
