Staff report

TRUCKEE-TAHOE, Calif. — The inaugural Run the Runway, a 5k run and 3/4-mile fun run, will be held Saturday at the Truckee Tahoe Airport.

This unique event will allow participants to enjoy the beauty of an autumn morning surrounded by Martis Valley’s mountain peaks while running on Truckee Tahoe Airport’s actual runway at 5,900 feet elevation.

Of course, the Truckee Tahoe Airport will have the runway closed to air traffic during the run. The 5k starts at 9 a.m. and the 3/4 mile starts at 9:30 a.m.

The first 200 participants to register will receive a souvenir water bottle. Light snacks will be provided at the water station at the end of the race, and a professional photographer will be photographing participants and have photos for sale online.

Visit runtherunwaytruckee.weebly.com to register. Tahoe Mountain Sports, located in the Safeway Plaza in Truckee, will also be registering participants in the store through Oct. 7.
