North Tahoe volleyball | Lakers drop league match at Incline

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. and#8212; Less than a week after dropping a home match to rival Incline, North Tahoe lost again on the Highlanders’ home court Tuesday night by a similar score, 19-25, 12-25, 15-25.

and#8220;We’re really coming together,and#8221; said Incline head coach Tacy Kelly, whose team improved to 5-4 in Mount Rose League play and 8-8 overall. and#8220;We were missing one player, (Laurel Perry), but the girls filled that spot and won the match. They did a great job. It was an exciting last home match of the season.and#8221;

The Lakers are now 3-6 in the Mount Rose League and 6-17 overall with one match remaining, at home against Whittell for their senior farewell on Friday. The Lakers will honor their three seniors, Emily Ashbaugh, Tara Turpin and Alexa Andrews, before the start of the 6 p.m. match.



Tuesday’s loss was reminiscent of last Wednesday’s, as Incline heated up midway through the first game and never cooled off en route to the league wins.

Competing in front of a sizable crowd following a ceremony for Incline’s seven seniors, the Highlanders and Lakers battled back and forth in a first set the had six ties and four lead changes. The Lakers led 8-3 at one point, but after a 15-15 tie, Incline outscored North Tahoe 10-4 down the stretch to close it out.



Incline took control after that as the energized Highlanders built large leads early in the second and third games before putting them away.

and#8220;We played well in the first game and then just let down,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Tom LeFevers.

North Tahoe senior Emily Ashbaugh posted a team-high six kills and seven blocks, while Tara Turpin and Alexa Andrews finished with four kills apiece, and Iren Rojas had 13 assists.

For the Highlanders, Lexi Dewey tallied 33 assists, Chandler McCunn had 28 digs, Charlene Swick had 15 kills and Tori McCunn 12 kills.

Kelly said Incline is firing on all cylinders after an up-and-down season, and that she’s excited to see how far the Highlanders have come since Day 1.

and#8220;It’s good to know where we came from to where we are now to where we know we can go,and#8221; the coach said. and#8220;The girls’ confidence is growing. They’re working hard in practice. They want it.and#8221;
