Prep golf: Truckee leads 3A at Whittell Invitational; North Tahoe short on players

STATELINE, Nev. ” Truckee captured first place among 3A schools and second place overall at the Whittell Invitational this past Thursday.

Manogue, a 4A program, took the top spot at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with a score of 400. The Wolverines posted a score of 410 between their top five golfers (out of six total), and were followed by Lowry at 425, Douglas at 428 and host Whittell at 432.

A total of 15 teams from the 2A, 3A and 4A classes competed.

North Tahoe had only four golfers at the tournament and did not record a complete score. Sage Ridge, Hawthorne and Sparks also did not have enough golfers to post a complete score.

Truckee senior Ethan Harman placed second individually shooting a 75, trailing only Miles Mathewson of Manogue, who earned medalist honors with a 73.

Harman’s Truckee teammates all posted scores in the 80s ” Will Collin an 82, Daniel Gelso 83, Cian Sullivan 84, Bryce Poulin 86 and Allan Nousiainen 86.

Junior Alec Griffith led the Lakers with an 87. He was followed by teammates Travis Boerner (91), Granger (111) and Brett Bahrke (114).
