Prep nordic racing: Truckee’s Kennedy, Taylor win at Sugar Pine Point
Russell Kennedy captured first place overall and Annika Taylor raced to a top finish among varsity girls in a CNISSF nordic race held on the trails of Sugar Pine Point State Park this past Friday.
As part of North Tahoe’s Olympic Heritage Celebration, athletes and organizers from the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Games were on hand to watch the young athletes race on the same trails used by the 1960 Olympic Nordic teams.
In the varsity boys division, Justin Ondry trailed his Truckee teammate with a runner-up finish, posting a time of 22:08.4 to Kennedy’s 21:46.9. Austin Meng of the Sugar Bowl Academy placed third in 22:12.7, while Patrick McElravey led the North Tahoe boys with a sixth-place finish in 24:12.8, and teammate Miles Heapes was seventh in 24:27.1.
Truckee’s Katrin Larusson finished second in the varsity girls race, posting a time of 26:21.4 to Taylor’s winning mark of 25:03.2. Allie McDaniel of Truckee was fourth in 26:55.9, while Shelby Foster was the top North Tahoe girl, finishing 12th in 29:36.5.
Jackson Rohlf of Truckee and Lisa Johnston of South Tahoe won the Open Division, while Sam Zabell and Erika Klenk raced to top finishes in the Middle School race.
