Prep Nordic skiing | Zabell, Cichowicz lead Sugar Bowl Academy in ASC Classic

Sugar Bowl Academy Nordic skiers cleaned up at the Auburn Ski Club Classic atop Donner Summit on Tuesday.

Freshmen Sam Zabell and Peter Carroll of the Sugar Bowl Academy finished first and second overall to lead the varsity boys, while teammates Cassidy Cichowicz, Katrin Larusson and Laurel Fiddler swept the top three in the varsity girls’ race.

Zabell recorded the fastest time of the day on the approximately 5-kilometer course, as he finished in 19 minutes and 41.31 seconds to Carroll’s 20:03.16.

Sophomore Evan Vomund of Incline was third in 20:7.76, while Truckee freshman Eli Yale took fourth overall and first in the open boys’ division in 20:19.78. North Tahoe’s Jackson Wood led the Lakers with a fifth-place finish among varsity boys, posting a time of 21:24.79.

Cichowicz captured the win in the varsity girls’ race while placing fifth overall with a time of 20:26.70. Larusson finished in 20:33.37 and Fiddler in 20:47.31.

Freshman Gabrielle Rinne led the Truckee girls with a fifth-place finish in 22:31.35, and teammate Skyler Flora was sixth in 22:39.22. Tara Gallant led the Laker girls with a 10th-place finish in the varsity race, in a time of 26:22.44. Teammate Zoe Anderson was 11th in 26:25.54.
