Prep snowboarding: Lakers tie for second in opening race

Snowboard season is underway for North Tahoe and Truckee, which competed among seven teams in the opening CNISSF race at Northstar-at-Tahoe on Monday.

Colfax amassed the most points between its boys and girls teams, posting a score of 375 to lead the field. North Tahoe, the defending state champ, finished tied with Placer with 357 points apiece. Davis (346) took third and Truckee (266) fourth.

Individually on the girls’ side, Truckee’s Kristen Harvey finished second while teammate Ariah Curtis placed 16th. Jenna Burnside led the Laker girls in third place, and was followed by Tara Turpin in fourth, Dani Pranin in 11th, Lexi Schumann 13th and Jamie Gross 15th.

Nate Horn recorded the top Laker boys finish in fourth place, and teammate Ben Reilly followed in eighth. For Truckee, the Cowie brothers led the way, with Kevin placing fifth and Ryan 12th.

In junior varsity competition, North Tahoe’s Kelley Holman, Kara Horn and Kenna Bolt swept the top three spots.
