Prep snowboarding: Lakers, Wolverines wrap up regular season
BOREAL MOUNTAIN RESORT ” Led by another top-three finish from senior Kristen Harvey, the Truckee girls tied with Placer for first place in the final CNISSF race of the regular season this past Friday.
North Tahoe’s girls won five of the six regular-season races and took third in Friday’s slalom at Boreal.
The defending state champion Lakers, who placed fourth overall in the finale, finished second in the Central II Snowboard Division season standings with 2,109 points to Colfax’s 2,221.
Placer (2,067 points) finished third on the season, Davis (2,037) fourth, Truckee (1,675) fifth, Bear River (1,488) sixth and Nevada Union (1,370) seventh.
The Lakers, Wolverines and their Central II Division counterparts will compete next week among 35 teams and 250 individual racers in the state championship at Mammoth Mountain, where teams from Lake Shasta to Lake Arrowhead will compete.
North Tahoe will send three boys and eight girls, while Truckee will be represented by three boys and three girls.
In the final regular-season standings, Harvey of Truckee took second place in both slalom and giant slalom behind Placer’s Caty O’Connor entering State.
North Tahoe’s Tara Turpin ” who took third on Friday ” finished third in slalom and fourth in GS on the season, and teammate Jenna Burnside finished fourth in slalom and third in GS. Dani Pranin of North Tahoe finished sixth on the season in GS.
On the boys’ side, Truckee’s Kevin Cowie ” who placed fifth on Friday ” took second on the season in slalom and third in GS, while brother Ryan Cowie was sixth in GS. Ryan Cowie placed 12th on Friday.
Nate Horn of North Tahoe finished fourth in GS and sixth in slalom, and teammate Ben Reilly was eighth in both slalom and GS and Clayton Doyle 10th in slalom.
Horn, Reilly and Doyle took seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively, on Friday.
