Prep soccer: North Tahoe, Truckee boys advance past first playoff round

Truckee and North Tahoeandamp;#8217;s boys soccer teams advanced past the first round of the Northern 3A regional tournament on the road Tuesday, while the Laker girlsandamp;#8217; season came to an end with a 3-0 loss at Spring Creek.The North Tahoe boys, seeded fourth in the Sierra League, beat top-seeded Fernley of the Humboldt League, 3-0, on the road, while the Wolverines, seeded second in the Sierra League, defeated second-seeded Yerington of the Humboldt League, 8-0.The Laker boys will face No. 2 Sierra League seed Sparks in a semifinal Friday at noon, when the tournament moves to Churchill County High School (Fallon) for the final two days.Truckee will face off against top-seeded Incline in its semifinal Friday at 2 p.m. The Highlanders defeated fourth-seeded Spring Creek of the Humboldt League, 7-1, to advance past the first round; Sparks beat Lowry 7-0 in its first-round game.The boysandamp;#8217; regional championship is scheduled for Saturday at noon, and the third-place game at 10 a.m. The top three teams qualify for the state championship.Stay tuned for more information, which will also run in Friday’s Sports andamp; Outdoors.
