The 3A All-State Most Valuable Player award could not have gone to a more deserving candidate, said Truckee head coach Hernan Valdivia.

“He’s by far and away the best player in Nevada,” Valdivia said of Max Brixey, who was voted All-League and All-State MVP. “At times he made the difference in our season. He put the team on his shoulder and carried us.

“He deserves everything he got.”

Brixey posted the type of numbers that warrant such honors, as the senior tallied 32 goals and 28 assists in 26 games.

Ten of Brixey’s teammates also were awarded All-League honors, while seven North Tahoe players were voted in.

Besides Brixey, four-year varsity starter Ryan Newland of Truckee was voted All-State and All-League Defensive Player of the Year. Newland recorded 15 shutouts, holding opposing teams to a half-goal per game.

Other Wolverines voted to the All-League first team include Salvador Tejeda at forward, Raul Cardenas at halfback and A.J. Delforge at fullback, while North Tahoe senior co-captain Chris Cahill earned first team honors as a utility player.

The Lakers’ Fernando Herrera was voted to the second team at halfback, and teammates Frankie Tenorio and co-captain Stefan Glander made the second team at fullback.

For Truckee, Michael Brixey made the second team at forward, Robby Heck at halfback and Abel Islas at fullback, while Jeffrey Worcester, Jason Apolinar and Bryan Reed earned honorable mention recognition.

North Tahoe’s Israel Ramirez, Zach Rickenback and Marco Garcia also received honorable mention recognition.

Tenorio was the only North Tahoe player named to All-State, voted to the second team as a fullback.

Cardenas was voted to the All-State first team along with Delforge, while Tejeda, Michael Brixey, Islas and Heck made the second team.

Worcester and Reed earned honorable mention recognition.
