The Truckee girls advanced to the Northern 3A Regional Championship while securing a berth in the state tournament with a 12-1 semifinal win over Fernley on Friday.

Truckee, the No. 1 seed out of the Sierra League, will face top-seeded Spring Creek of the Humboldt League for the Northern 3A title Saturday at noon. The tournament is at Churchill County High School (Fallon).

Spring Creek’s girls defeated Incline, the second seed from the Sierra League, 3-2, in their semifinal Friday.

The top three teams advance to state, setting up a deciding third-place matchup between Incline and Fernley on Saturday at 10 a.m.

On the boys’ side of the tournament, both Truckee and North Tahoe lost in the semifinals Friday, with the Wolverines falling 2-0 to top-seeded Incline, and the Lakers losing 3-0 to second-seeded Sparks.

That sets up a third-place game between third-seeded Truckee and fourth-seeded North Tahoe on Saturday at 10 a.m. to decide the final seed for the state tournament.
