Ranch Hands Reno champs

The Ranch Hands softball team, from Donner Summit and surrounding areas, played in the Hot August Nights softball tournament this past Saturday.

Held at the Reno Sports Complex, the participating teams played four games in a round-robin format with the top two teams going into the winner’s bracket.

The Hands smothered their first three competitors, outscoring the opponents 56-15.

The Hands finally met formidable competition when they played the undefeated Screaming Beavers.

The Beavers rallied to tie the Hands late in the sixth before the Hands turned an 8-2-6 triple play and squelched their efforts.

Elliot Metzger caught a pop-fly in left center field. Metzger threw to the catcher, Mitch Brown, at home who made the force-out and pitched it to shortstop, Mike Baker, who tagged the runner that was advancing from first.

The play rallied the Hands, who went on to win the game, 29-18.

The Hands won the championship game, against the Beavers, 8-5 in six and a half innings.
