Rec and park district holds children’s track meet May 19

The Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District is sponsoring a Hershey’s Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 19, from 3:30-6 p.m.

The meet is open to youngsters born in the years 1986-1991. There is no cost to compete.

Age groups are determined based on the year born.

Boys compete with boys and girls with girls within the proper age group. Group 1 is for boys and girls born in 1990/91.

Group 2 for those born 1988/89. Group 3 is for those born in 1986/87.

Boys and Girls can compete in the following events: Group 1; 50 -meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200- and 200-meter runs, softball throw and power jump. Group 2; 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter runs, softball throw and power jump. Group 3; 100-, 200-, 800- and 1,600-meter runs, power jump and softball throw.

Participants are limited to two running events and one field event or two field events and one running event.

Participants must wear tennis or running shoes, no cleats or soccer shoes are allowed.

The top two competitors in each event will have a chance to advance to the regional meet and to the Nationals as well.

The recreation district is also looking for parent volunteers to help out as timers and officials at the meet.
