Red tops Gray in Truckee Babe Ruth

In a close and at times well-played game, the Truckee Red Babe Ruth team defeated Truckee Gray, 4-2, in their second meeting of the year.

Luke Theis, pitching for the Gray team, kept the Red team at bay until the fifth inning. By that time, the Gray team led 2-0, with Max Szekely scoring in the second inning and Brooks Hudson scoring in the third.

Red pitcher Trevor Auldridge, relieving for Tony Rodriguez, got his team to wake up by retiring the side on only four pitches in the bottom of the fourth. The Red team responded, with Kevin Andrews scoring in the fifth to make it a 2-1 game.

In the top of the sixth, which would be the last inning due to time, Truckee Red tied the game, then went ahead and got an insurance run with Troy Allen, Tony Buranzan and Ryan Smith scoring.

Auldridge then closed out the game, stranding Austin McWhinney on second base as the batter struck out.

The two Truckee teams face off in a doubleheader on closing day, June 23. But first, each team must play North Tahoe again. The Gray team hosts North Tahoe on the Truckee High field Friday at 4 p.m., and the Red team visits North Tahoe on Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Tahoe Vista.
