Reno runner wins Squaw Valley Half Marathon

More than 100 runners reached the finish line of the Squaw Valley Half Marathon put on by Big Blue Adventure on Sunday.

Patrick Fisher of Reno claimed the overall victory and Becky Richey of Boynton Beach, Fla., was the top woman and ninth overall.

Fisher, 46, covered the 13.1-mile, out-and-back course in a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, 45 seconds. Richey, 36, posted a time of 1:44:54.

Fisher was followed by Shane Whitney of Lodi (1:31:59) in second and John Burton of San Jose (1:34:03) in third.

Denton Earnhardt, 42, of Truckee was the top local finisher and fourth overall with a time of 1:35:03. Chris Fiegel of South Lake Tahoe was fifth in 1:37:56.

Reno’s Cory Avery, 54, placed second in the women’s field and 10th overall in 1:45:07, and Sarah Correa, 24, of Sacramento was the third woman and 13th overall (1:47:01). Truckee’s Chrissy Earnhardt finished fifth in the women’s field and 16th overall (1:50:04).

Among other top local finishers, Eli Covell of Tahoe City finished eighth (1:44:34) and Stefan Tampe of Incline was 12th (1:46:54),

The oldest runner was 74-year-old Steve Humphrey of Reno, who placed 67th with a time of 2:15:16. A total of 102 people finished, while four dropped.
