Riding high at the Truckee Rodeo

The Truckee Championship Rodeo 2001 was held last weekend at McIver Arena, and was a roaring success.

Organizers reported a high turnout this year. A total purse of nearly $20,000 was given to award winners in several categories.

Sixteen-year-old Lindsey Hines was named the 2001 Rodeo Queen.

A member of the Truckee Donner Junior Horsemen for 5 years, she said she has been fascinated with horses since she was 2 years old.

The rodeo’s “All Around Top Cowboy” was Casey Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif.

Other first place winners included Rocky Steagan, Clovis, Bareback Riding; Justin Arnold, Atascadero, Saddle Bronc Riding; Thomas Bert, Modesto, Bull Riding; Casey Branquinho, Los Alamos, Calf Roping; Chad Edgmon, Fallon, Nev., Steer Wrestling; Kles Goodrich, Fresno, and Matt Zancanella, Team Roping; Renee Ryckesbosch, Sparks, Barrel Race.
