Rob Rojas claims Tahoe Cup Race Series title
Rob Rojas completed the season sweep of the O’Neill Tahoe Cup Race Series with another convincing win under sunny skies Sunday.
The O’Neill-sponsored paddler from San Clemente, who won the opening race on Donner Lake over the Memorial Day weekend and the Jam From the Dam in July, covered the grueling, 22-mile course from El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe to Kings Beach in a time of 3:38:09.
The victory gave Rojas the overall Tahoe Cup Race Series title in the Elite Unlimited division.
Local paddler Rand Carter of Tahoe Vista finished second with a time of 3:55:17, and Michael Valenzuela of Truckee was third in 4:16:42.
Truckee’s Jay Wild, meanwhile, won the Elite 14-foot division with a time of 4:01:10, while Benjamin Sarrazin of Petaluma was second in 4:03:39 and Brennan Rose of Maui was third in 4:12:12.
Although Wild took the win in the Elite 14’ division, Rose won the overall title after recording first-places finishes in the first two events.
In the women’s elite division, Jen Fuller of Sausalito raced to victory with a time of 4:31:50 and was followed by Nina Oakley of Reno and Wendy Ackerman of Homewood, who posted times of 4:35:16 and 4:58:30, respectively. Fuller’s win gave her the overall women’s elite title.
A total of 95 racers reached the finish line.
