Truckee High girls’ tennis standout Andrea Roegiers will play in the 2004 NIAA 4A State Tennis Championships starting Friday (Oct. 22) at Plumas Tennis Courts in Reno.

Roegiers, a senior, won four matches in the 4A NIAA Northern Regional Girls’ Singles bracket to earn third place and an invitation to the state tournament.

Roegiers took a 21-2 regular season singles record into the regional bracket, and her only loss was to Galena’s Sierra Leeder (7-5, 6-2). Leeder also handed Roegiers one of her two regular season losses, 6-3, on Sept. 21.

Besides the loss to Leeder, Roegiers never lost a game in victories over players from North Valleys, Reno, Incline and McQueen.

Truckee seniors Brynn Kennedy and Kristin Deeter were eliminated in the first round of the regional doubles bracket.

On the Truckee boys side, No. 1 singles player Kaya Lampe was knocked out in the second round of the regional bracket. Greg Beno lost his first round match, as well as doubles team Court Hickman and Gabe Cooper.

Doubles team J.J. Besio and Evan Carroll were eliminated in the second round after upsetting the No. 3 seeds from Reno in their first match.

The boys team also made regionals as a group, but they dropped their first match to Reno.
