Roster, long break slows wrestling tide

Two weeks of Christmas vacation plus a snow week left the Truckee wrestling squad a little sluggish entering the New Year.

Coach Mike Halket took only three wrestlers down to the Carson Valley Tournament, hosted by Douglas High in Gardnerville Saturday.

“It was a rough three weeks,” coach Rob Curtis said. “We fell behind schedule, so now we have to work on conditioning.”

Marcus Waters went 2-2 in the 152 lbs. division. Shane Wright went 1-2 at 160 lbs. and Daniel Ballou was 1-1 at 171 lbs. in the tournament.

Team points – with a three-wrestler roster – had them tied for last place. The 4A teams brought full rosters to the tournament.

Up next is the Sparks High Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday’s match against Incline Village and Quincy in Quincy was unreported.
