Ruby Wood runner-up in combined at USASA Nationals

Truckee teen Ruby Wood finished second overall in the combined in the junior division of the USASA National Championships held at Copper Mountain, Colo., from April 3-8.

Wood, a sophomore at Truckee High and member of the Northstar-at-Tahoe Snowboard Team, also landed on the podium with a silver in slalom. She finished fourth in both the halfpipe and giant slalom events, seventh in boardercross and ninth in slopestyle.

Emma Crosby of Minnesota won the gold in combined, while former Truckee resident Coleen Healy took bronze.



In all, there were more than 40 snowboarders from the North Tahoe Division of the USASA (United States of America Snowboard Association) who were selected to compete at the National Championships.

The athletes were chosen based on their performances in the North Tahoe USASA snowboard competition series, which included more than 15 events at local resorts, including Boreal and Donner Ski Ranch.



The event showcased more than 1,600 of the nationand#8217;s top regional snowboarders, ranging in age from 4 all the way to 64.
