Several Truckee-Tahoe skiers nominated to U.S. Alpine Ski Team

PARK CITY, Utah — Several skiers with local and regional ties have been nominated for the 2016-17 U.S. Alpine Ski Team, according to a press release issued July 12 by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

Three of the selected skiers hail from Squaw Valley and currently compete for the Squaw Valley Ski Team, including Travis Ganong, Julia Mancuso and Bryce Bennett.

Ganong was named to the U.S. men’s A team; Mancuso was selected to the women’s A team; and Bennett will join the men’s B team.

Meanwhile, Truckee native Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain Ski Team) was selected to the women’s A team, and Truckee native Tim Jitloff (Park City Ski Team) joins the men’s A team.

Chosen for the women’s B team was Incline Village’s Lila Lapanja of Diamond Peak Ski Team and Sugar Bowl Academy.

Also earning a nomination was Truckee’s Mark Engel (Sugar Bowl Academy), who was picked for the men’s C team.

Squaw Valley Ski Team’s Erik Arvidsson of Woodside, Calif., was named to the men’s C team, while Squaw Valley Ski Team’s Keely Cashman of Strawberry, Calif., joins the women’s D team.

Lastly, Tahoe City native Garret Driller (Montana State University) has been nominated to the National University Team.

Nominations are based upon published selection criteria in the prior season, according to the release.

An official team announcement will be made in the fall.
