Golf for Skate
Northstar California will host Golf for Skate, a fundraising effort to expand and illuminate the Truckee Skatepark, on Sunday, June 24 at noon. The fundraising tournament is a four-man scramble format and includes a cart, range balls, lunch, drink specials, hole contests and prizes. Cost is $55 per person or $65 cash at the event. Sign up at http://www.truckeeskatepark.com now as spots are going fast. Registration begins at 11 a.m. on the day of the event.
Call to Truckee football alumni
Gridiron Alumni is planning a full-contact alumni football game between graduates of Truckee and South Tahoe high schools. The first 40 players signed up on each team get to play. Teams from Carson, Douglas and South Tahoe have already formed, with the Carson and Douglas teams to play in August or September. However, players from Truckee are needed in order for South Tahoe to get on the schedule. Players from North Tahoe, Incline and other area schools are also welcome to register for their own game. Woodward Tahoe grand opening
Woodward Tahoe at Boreal Mountain Resort will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, June 9 for professional and amateur athletes to skate and ride the newest action sports training facility on the West Coast. Top athletes stopping by to check out the massive new compound will include freeskier Tanner Hall, BMX rider Ryan Nyquist skateboarder Curren Caples and snowboarder Chas Guldemond, who will be part of the pro demos, open skate sessions, events, music and more. Adding to the dayand#8217;s fun, the Boreal terrain park will also spin one chairlift.
Jake’s 19th annual Charity Fishing Derby
Jake’s 19th Annual Charity Fishing Derby will be held on Sunday, June 3 from one hour before sunrise to noon. Prize money is awarded to anglers who reel in the largest mackinaw ($1,000), brown trout ($500) and rainbow trout ($250). The $50 donation includes derby entry, a T-shirt, a buffet brunch (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) and raffle. Proceeds will benefit community charities through the Tahoe City Rotary Club Foundation. Adventure Sports Week races
The 2nd Annual Adventure Sports Week Tahoe, scheduled for Friday, June 15 through June 24, will host a series of triathlons and trail-running events in addition to its other outdoor sporting competitions, clinics taught by professionals, live musical concerts and family-friendly activities. The week’s trail-running events are part of the Tahoe Trail Running Series and are presented by Salomon. The competition kicks off at Lake Tahoe’s secret state park, Burton Creek, in Tahoe City, with the Burton Creek Trail Run (5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon) on June 17. The Run to Squaw on June 24 will be held on the paved Truckee River Bike Trail. Participants start at Commons Beach and run the 7.9-mile course along the Truckee River to the Village at Squaw. The triathlon competitions all take place on June 23, with three different races and#8212; XTERRA Tahoe City, XTERRA Tahoe City Sprint and XTERRA Tahoe City Duathlon. Santa Cruz Demo Day
Tahoe Mountain Guides will host the Santa Cruz Demo Day in Truckee on June 3, sponsored by Cycle Paths Bike Shop. Join the crew from noon through 5 p.m., and ride one or all of the new Santa Cruz offerings such as the Blur TRc, a new 5-inch trail bike, or the new long travel 29er, the Tallboy LT. There will also be Nomads and Blur LTs available for comparison. Join the bike party at the Sawtooth Trailhead, located just past the gate on the gravel 06 road in Sierra Meadows. Parking is limited, so carpool, or better yet, ride a bike.
