Girls softball leagueThe Tahoe City Public Utilities District is still taking sign-ups for its girls softball league for players grades fifth through ninth. Games are scheduled from April 27 through June 6 at various fields in Tahoe City, Truckee, Kings Beach and Incline Village. Games will be played Monday through Saturday. Fee is $75, or $70 for residents (includes jersey and picture package). Coaches are needed. Cost is $125 (includes material), or $45 for recertification. Must be 15 or older. Classes will be held May 2 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; May 9 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; May 10 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; May 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; May 17 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m; and May 23 starting at 9 a.m. To recertify, participants need only attend the May 17 class. Each class will consist of pool and classroom time. Bring a lunch, swim suit, towel and change of clothes. Team registration is available until June 8. There will be 10 games played on Sundays from 5-8 p.m. Team fees are $125 and sponsor fees $150. Each players game is evaluated using the latest golf analysis technology. Then a customized improvement plan is developed for each golfer. Camps are co-ed and taught by Academy instructors, including Keith Lyford and Renee Trudeau. Two sessions are available: Beginner and Intermediate Camp from June 22-26 and the Advanced Players Camp from July 13-17. Camps will be held July 13-15, July 16-18, July 19-21 and July 22-24. The fourth session, July 22-24 is a Latino Youth Backcountry Camp. Each camp has the capacity for 12 students. Cost is $99 for the first three sessions (scholarships are available) and only $25 for the fourth session (the Latino Youth Backcountry Camp). Shasta tripTruckees North American Ski Training Center (NASTC) will lead a three-day trip from May 30-June 1 to ski Mt. Shasta. No experience is required to make the ascent. All three days will be spent on the mountain, with each day involving ski time as well as well instruction and practice of ski mountaineering skills and techniques. Players will train twice a week at their preferred location. Truckee will host players ages 4 to 18 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
