Northstar to host Leadville Trail 100 qualifierNorthstar California Resort will host the Tahoe Trail 100, the final of six races in the Leadville Qualifying Series (LQS), on Sunday, July 22. The event will qualify racers for coveted and otherwise impossible-to-secure spots in the Leadville Trail 100, touted as the most prestigious mountain bike race in North America. The challenging course will start and finish at Northstar, feature seven total climbs and approximately 100 kilometers, and has been vetted by LQS technical director Dave Wiens, a six-time Leadville Trail 100 champion and member of the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame. Participants will compete for 70 to 100 qualifying spots in the Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado on Aug. 11. Registration is open, and will be capped at 1,000 racers. The 1-mile run, which is is for all ages and abilities, begins at 10 a.m. along Donner Pass Road from US Bank to the Train Station. Benefiting the High Fives Foundation and production from Crux Events, this series will showcase the best long drive golfers in the Tahoe Basin. Scheduled dates are July 25 and Aug. 15 (the June 27 event was postponed). Starting at 7:30 p.m., the best of three drives qualifies for the finals. Entry is $20 for each date and there will be merchandise prizes for all classes with cash prizes for the pros. All age groups are invited. Limited to the first 50 entries.
