Practice starts Aug. 3 for two teams andamp;#8212; one in the Mighty Mites division and one in the Pee Wee division. Mighty Mites are for players ages 7-9 who weigh between 45 and 90 pounds. Pee Wees are for players ages 9-11 who weigh between 75 and 120 pounds, and 12-year-olds who weigh between 75 and 100 pounds. All swimmers must be current registered members of one of these organizations to compete. Medals will be awarded, with Olympic gold medalist Debbie Meyer serving as Master of Award Ceremonies. The foundation has launched a summer golf program based on the U.S. Kids Golf curriculum. The weeklong program, for ages 6 through 17, will be offered at Old Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach and Timilick Tahoe in the Martis Valley. All classes are under the instruction of PGA professional instructors, and the cost is $100 per student per week. The program will be offered several different weeks throughout the summer. Remaining camps will be held July 16-18, July 19-21 and July 22-24. The fourth session, July 22-24 is a Latino Youth Backcountry Camp. Each camp has the capacity for 12 students. Cost is $99 for the first three sessions (scholarships are available) and only $25 for the fourth session (the Latino Youth Backcountry Camp). Participants will need to wear comfortable clothes and bring lunch, bathing suit, sun block and lots of water. Camps will be taught by McKinney as well as Ashley Hartman and Javier Espinoza.
