Strong second half concludes JV season

The Tahoe Truckee Wolverines girls’ junior varsity basketball team played like they had weights on their ankles in the first half against the North Tahoe Lakers.

In the second half, they played like they were 10 pounds lighter.

The Wolverines overcame a 16-15 halftime deficit to blow past the Lakers for a 36-24 win in their last game of the season.

In the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Wolverines outscored the Lakers 13-0, taking a commanding enough lead that Truckee Head Coach John Western was able to substitute four of the five players out on the floor.

“I was really glad to end the season with such a great second half,” Western said. “The girls worked really hard all year and it’s great to finish on such an up-note.”

Deidre Panzierra and Sydney Stokes were the game’s leading scorers with 12 points apiece. Jaimee Froelich contributed six points for the Wolverines. Jenny Wittlinger and Natalie Henriques each had seven points for the Lakers.

The Wolverines finished with a 7-1 division record.
