Strong showing in cross-country meet

The Truckee High School cross country team had their first big meet Sept. 12 at Truckee with the entire league.

Lowry walked away with first place in the tournament while the Truckee girls’ team finished fourth overall.

For the boys’ team Brian York finished in the 10 spot and Matt Gelso finished 11th.

Last year the boy’s team won state, out of the seven on the State Champion team four are still on the team.

“If they work really hard they could have a shot at state,” said head coach Mark Brady. “I have two solid runners (York and Gelso), but I’m still looking for a third fourth and fifth runner to step up,” Brady said.

On the girl’s team Katie Clark finished in ninth place.

“The girl’s team has potential for a good season if they work hard,” Brady said.

On Sept. 19 Gelso placed third at the North Tahoe meet and York finished 18th.

“It was a big meet,” Brady said.

At Friday’s Dayton meet York finished second. Lorens Myers finished 15th and John Harrigan took 25th.

“I’m looking for big things from Dylan Curry,” Brady said. “I’m still feeling out the new guys.”

On the girls’ team Clark finished fifth while Kate Sorokina took 18th and Sara Clark took 20th.

“If the girl’s bring it together at practice they could do well,” Brady said.
