Sugar Bowl hosting skicross competitions Tuesday, Wednesday

Sun Staff report

Sugar Bowl will host two sanctioned U.S. Skiing FIS Nor-Am Cup skicross competitions on its new course off Mt. Judah’s Tunnel 41 trail Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spectators are welcome, as the course offers numerous viewing areas.

John Monson, Sugar Bowl’s director of sales and marketing, said he expects about 40 racers on the men’s side and 15 to 20 on the women’s side, with skiers from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Italy and Jamaica, and possibly racers from Swiss and French teams. Truckee’s Errol Kerr, who will be Jamaica’s lone representative at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, is slated to compete.

United States competitors must have both a current USSA membership and a FIS license, while international competitors are required to carry a FIS license complete with inscription by their home nation. Entry fees are $185 for both days or $115 for one day.
