Swimmers split road meets, state looms over ailing team
The Tahoe-Truckee High School swim team came away with a win and a loss in meets against South Tahoe and Hug this last Saturday.
Against South Tahoe, the Vikings won with 87 points to Truckee’s 82.
“We just lost by five and that’s very close,” said Truckee coach Levonna Butz. “But we still did very well because they had twice as many swimmers as we did.”
To add to this, the Truckee team has been plagued with sinus infections and other maladies which have kept several swimmers away from practice as zones and state near.
The following are individual results from the meet vs. South Tahoe:
— 200-meter medley relay: Truckee team finished second; Megan Harter, Jessica McGovern, Sandy Theil and Tess Lannoy; in 2:03. The Truckee B team finished third in 2:18.44

Rest of the season
There is one more regular dual meet against Churchill at Northwestern in Reno Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m.
On Monday, May 11, there is an end-of-the-season invitational at Northwestern, which will be followed shortly by zone trials, Friday, May 15, and finals Saturday, May 16, at the UNR pool.
The state championships are Saturday, May 23, at UNR.
Butz said four swimmers, Lannoy, McGovern, Harter and Theil, might qualify for state, but that it could be difficult, considering the recent ailments and resulting lack of practice time.
