Swimmers’ triumphant season end

Lara Mullin, Sierra Sun

Last Friday marked the close of the regular season for the Wolverine swimmers, capping off an undefeated run for the ladies’ team and adding a second win to the boys’ record.

First place finishes by Leslie Ajari, Lauren Browning, Lindsay Collin and Kara LaPoint catapulted the TNT team to a 109-56 win over the Highlanders. Freshman Kate Rose also swam a solid race, qualifying for zone championships in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.

In the 100 butterfly race, Lauren Browning swam for a personal best time of 1:07.85, qualifying for zones in that event. Junior Natasha Heckendorn also had a strong 100 m butterfly race, just missing the zone qualifying mark.

Wes Ajari led the boys team to a 61 to 22 finish, with first place performances in both of his events. Aaron Browning also claimed top acclaim in the 100 backstroke and second place in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:47.41.

Tom Kelly came in for third place in the 50 freestyle, earning a personal best time of 26.38, while teammate Joe Dahlen pulled out two personal best swims in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Adding to the team’s domination, Nikolai Travis earned first in the 200 freestyle and second place in the 100 breaststroke to close out the day.

Truckee is currently training for the zone championships in Carson City on May 11 and 12, where the top five finishers in each individual event and relay will travel to the State Championships on May 18 and 19.
