Swimming: Pittenger third in 200 and 500 freestyle
Staff reports
Senior Truckee swimmer John Pittenger finished third in the two disciplines he qualified for at the state swim meet this weekend at University of Nevada-Las Vegas, the same college Pittenger will swim for starting in the fall.
Pittenger swam a 1:45.77 in the 200 yard freestyle and a 4:48.17 in the 500 yard freestyle. Both times were good for third place in the state tournament in those disciplines. Pittenger’s times allowed Truckee to place 14th as a team among boys. He improved slightly over his 2003 state performance of 4:48.58 in the 500 freestyle.
The Reno girls won their fourth straight championship, and the Boulder City boys won their third straight NIAA State Swimming & Diving Championship.
