Tahoe Cup Challenge raises $25,000

The annual Tahoe Cup Challenge Golf Tournament attracted 106 area golfers on Saturday to the new Johnny Miller/John Harbottle III championship golf course at Timilick Tahoe in Truckee.The event raised more than $25,000 for the Lake Tahoe/Truckee Youth Golf Foundation to support The First Tee Affiliate programs at Timilick Tahoe and other Lake Tahoe-region golf courses, said tournament director Keith D. Vogt.Steve Monroe claimed the overall individual trophy, while Eric Bocks won the mens amateur overall gross, Reta Blanchard captured the womens gross honors and Nancy Staahl was the womens net winner.The First Tee provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop social skills and values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through golf. First Tee board members include Isabelle Wilson, executive directors of the Boys andamp; Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe Truckee; Bruce Kranz, Placer Country Supervisor 5th District; Timilick Director of Golf Matt Anderson, and Mark Richardson of Martis Valley Associates, developers of Timilick Tahoe.Timilick is now the home course for the first North Lake Tahoe chapter of the First Tee Youth Organization. The new chapter, spearheaded by Vogt, will be open to all youths in the North Lake Tahoe area, and sponsorships for children and teens in need will also be available as grants and other funding are achieved.
