Tahoe skiers selected to compete at U.S. National Alpine Championships

Truckee skier Morganne Murphy has always admired Julia Mancuso, but she never dreamed she’d be competing against her.

Murphy, 17, is one of only a handful of junior competitors from the Tahoe area chosen to compete at the U.S. Alpine National Championships in Winter Park, Colo, from Thursday though Sunday. The other local skiers competing include Lila Lapanja of Incline Village, Bryce Bennett of Tahoe City and Mark Engel, Dylan Brooks, Adam Barwood and Craig Marshall from the Sugar Bowl Academy.

Top athletes from the more than 400 U.S. Ski Team club programs throughout the country will converge on Winter Park for the four-day event. Many members of the U.S. Ski Team, including Mancuso, Lindsey Vonn, Truckee’s Tim Jitloff, Ted Ligety and Nolan Casper, will also be competing.
