Tahoe Twins | Local baseball team off to hot start in NABA World Series

The Tahoe Twins are off to a 3-0 start in the National Adult Baseball Association World Championship Series in Phoenix and#8211; and theyand#8217;ve earned the wins in convincing fashion.

Behind strong starting pitching and an explosive offense, the Twins have outscored their opponents 41-4, starting with a 10-1 win Thursday against the Mountain Men.

They backed that up with an even more lopsided beating, routing the Denver Bulls, 17-2, Thursday night in a game that was called after five innings on the 15-run mercy rule. On Friday morning the Twins beat the San Jacinto Beernuts, 14-1. They were scheduled to play the undefeated Washington Pilots on Friday afternoon.

Joe Thomas started the opener, going three innings before Cody Frudenthal pitched the next three innings and Jake Morford pitched the final three. Twins manager Bob Habeger said the Mountain Men had a pitcher from the Dominican Republic who threw hard, but the Twins hit him well. Thomas was named MVP of the game.

The Twins put on a hitting display with J.R. Murphy on the mound in the second game, highlighted by Jamy Habegerand#8217;s home run and Steve Derbyand#8217;s 4-for-4 day with two doubles and a triple, earning him MVP honors.

Murphy pitched a solid four innings, striking out eight and giving up one hit. Nick Morales closed it, giving up two runs on three hits.
