Tahoe Twins sweep doubleheader from Butte Sabres

TAHOE VISTA and#8212; Competing with a squad of just nine players, the Tahoe Twins swept a doubleheader, 5-0 and 9-8, at home against the Butte Sabres on Saturday.

Joe Thomas pitched a complete-game shutout in Game 1, while Jesse Hildebrandt allowed just two runs (one earned) in five innings in Game 2 to earn the win.

The sweep adjusted the Twins’ season record to 15-15 overall.

and#8220;Joe pitched a really good first game,and#8221; said Twins Manager Bob Habeger. and#8220;That was a pretty good ballclub, so to shut them down like that was huge.and#8221;

Hildebrandt and Jesse Brown swung the hot bats for the Twins, as Brown went 6 for 8 with a double and four RBIs on the day and Hildebrandt went 5 for 7 with an RBI.

and#8220;Those two guys carried the load offensively for us,and#8221; Habeger said.

Junior Ramirez contributed two RBIs in Game 2, and Rob Grimes went 1 for 3. Grimes also made his first appearance of the year on the mound, throwing the sixth inning and part of the seventh before Drew Lipnosky recorded the final three outs with the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third.

The local team also played solid defense, recording three double plays in the first game and four in the second.
