Tahoe Twins to host Reno/Tahoe NABA championship

Sun Staff report

The top-seeded Tahoe Twins will host the Reno/Tahoe NABA championship at North Tahoe Regional Park on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Twins, who routed the Tahoe Braves, 15-3, in the semifinal round of the playoffs last Wednesday, will face the third-seeded Reno Hustlers, who defeated the second-seeded Reno Hornets to advance to the championship.

It was never close in the Twins-Braves postseason matchup, as the Twins exploded for nine runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. They added a run in the second and four more in the third to lead 14-0.

The Braves got on the board with three runs in the fifth inning off of starter Jesse Hildebrandt, who allowed three hits and a walk in his five innings of work. Evan Neiser, who will start the championship game against the Hustlers on Sunday, threw two scoreless innings in relief.

Corey Munoz led the offensive onslaught, going 4 for 4 and with two doubles and three RBIs. Steve Derby went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, Jesse Brown was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, and Randy Jansen and Scott Decker each had a hit and two RBIs. Bobby Habeger had three hits and an RBI and Joe Thomas two hits and an RBI.
