Teal Ericson shines for Wolf Pack volleyball team
Tahoe City product Teal Ericson emerged as a leader for the University of Nevada volleyball team as it opened the season with two wins in three matches at the Holiday Inn Classic in Bozeman, Mont., this past weekend.Ericson, a 2004 North Tahoe High graduate, led the Wolf Pack in kills in each of the three matches during the Montana State-hosted tournament. The 6-foot-1 junior outside hitter delivered 10 kills Friday night in a loss against eventual tournament champion Creighton, then on Saturday, she had 11 kills in a win against Florida Atlantic and 20 kills in a win against against Montana State. Ericson hit for a .318 percentage in the Montana State match and finished on a strong note in Game 3 when she put down five of Nevadas final seven kills. The Wolf Pack extended their lead from 23-20 to 30-22 during that span. Tristin Johnson, a senior setter from Fallon, and Ericson were both named to the all-tournament team.Nevada swept Florida Atlantic 30-23, 30-16, 35-33 and then returned to the court later in the day to defeat Montana State 30-21, 26-30, 30-22, 30-28. The Wolf Pack lost to Creighton 30-25, 30-27, 30-24.Nevada (2-1) hosts the three-team AT&T Invitation this coming weekend in Reno at the Virginia Street Gym. Nevada plays Montana at 5 p.m. on Friday night and then Pacific at noon on Sunday.
