Torpedoes second at championship meet

The Tahoe-Truckee Swim Torpedo team once again proved it was king of the pool over the weekend. This time it was at the Nevada-Cal League Championships at Idlewild Pool in Reno July 31-Aug. 2.

Among nine teams and 533 swimmers, the 86 Torpedoes combined to take second overall at the championships.

Following are individual high point winners:

— Daniel Gelso, first in 6 and under boys.

— Kayla Mariani, first in 7-8 girls.

— Matthew Gelso, first in 9-10 boys.

— Sean Collin, third in 9-10 boys.

— Lindsay Collin, first in 11-12 girls.

— Joaquin Goodpaster, second in 11-12 boys.

— Lauren Browning, first in 13-14 girls.

— Wesley Ajari, first in 13-14 boys.

— Jessica McGovern, second in 15-16 girls.

Individual times follow:

–Wesley Ajari, 14, first in six events: 200-meter free (2:01.38), 200 fly (2:28.38), 200 IM (2:12.58), 100 fly (1:02.36), 100 free (54.30) and 50 breast (30.22). He was third in the 100 back, 50 free and 200 back.

–Cory Arth, 12, was third in the 30 breast in 38.38, a new A time.

–Kyle Aumann, 9, was second in two events: the 25 fly (18.08) and the 100 breast (1:36.16). Aumann was third in the 200 free and 100 free.

–Lauren Rowning, 13, took first in two events: the 50 free (26.86) and the 200 back (2:23.99). Rowning was second in the following: 100 breast, 200 IM, 100 free and 200 breast. She was third in the 100 back and 50 fly.

–Lindsay Collin, 12, took first in six events: 200 free (2:14.97), 100 back (1:09.17), 100 fly (1:08.86), 100 IM (1:08.22), 50 back (32.56), 50 fly (29.80) and 100 free (1:15.69).

–Sean Collin, 10, was first in three events: the 100 back (1:23.35), 50 fly (36.98) and 50 back (38.58). Collin was second in: 100 IM (1:22.02), 100 fly (1:25.75) and 50 breast (43.18).

–Brett Cornell, 12, placed second in the 50 breast (38.09) and third in the 100 breast (1:26.63).

–Daniel Gelso, 6, placed first in six events: 25 breast (27.48), 25 back (21.96), 100 IM (1:46.50), 25 free (19.38), 25 fly (24.06) and 50 free (42.93).

–Matthew Gelso, 10, also finished first in six events: 200 free (2:35.75), 100 breast (1:31.41), 25 back (18.85), 50 free (32.00), 100 free (1:11.11) and 50 breast (41.35). Gelso was third in the 100 IM and 100 fly.

–Joaquin Goodpaster, 11, took first in two events: 100 breast (1:21.69) and the 50 breast (37.12). Goodpaster was second in the 100 IM and 100 free. He placed third in the 50 fly and 100 fly.

–Hayley Howell, 10, took first in the 25 back in 19.90.

–Kayla Mariani, 8, took first in seven events: 100 free (1:15.05), 25 back (19.40), 100 IM (1:31.29), 25 free (15.74), 50 back (44.39), 25 fly (18.29) and 50 free (34.70). Mariani placed second in the 50 breast and third in the 25 breast.

–Jessica McGovern, 16, took first in the 50 breast (34.25) and the 50 back (31.23). McGovern was second in the 50 fly, 200 IM, 100 back and 100 breast. She was third in the 100 fly.

–Jessie Poulsen, 10, took third in the 100 breast in 1:39.66.

–Chris Schwartz, 9, took second in the 25 back in 20.02.

–The Torpedoes’ Swim Team A finished third in the 200 free relay in 1:55.16.
