Triathlon needs volunteers

While the event itself is filling up quickly, organizers of the Donner Lake Multi-Event Challenge say they are still in dire need of volunteers.

The event, scheduled for July 21, includes an international triathlon with a 1.5K mile swim, a 40K-bike ride and a 10K run. There is also a short course sprint triathlon (400-yard swim, six-mile ride and two-mile run), a 10K run and a 2x5K relay run.

Volunteers will assist by monitoring the course, manning the water stations, keeping time and providing swim-course safety in kayaks.

Each volunteer will receive free coffee, lunch and a race T-shirt.

And organizers are encouraging those who want to participate in the events to register soon, as the rosters are expected to be full by the middle of July.

In all, 1,700 are expected for the competitions.

Registration fees are $80 for the individual international triathlon, $120 for the international relay teams, $50 for the sprint triathlon and $20 per person for the 10 K and relay run.

Call (530) 757-2012 or got to for more information.

The first race starts at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21.
