Truckee 10-11 Little League club wins opener

The Truckee 10-11 All Star team beat Sparks National 7-1 in its first game of the Nevada District 1 Little League Tournament at Reno’s South Valleys Sports Complex on Sunday.

Sparks scored the first run of the game in the top of the second before Truckee answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and three more later in the game.

Truckee hitters only struck out once all game. Timmy Cooper, Marc Biederman, Clayton O’Connell, Jake Pettit, Erik Holmer, Stein Retzlaff and Aaron Pado each had base hits for Truckee.

Defensively, Truckee committed four errors but limited the damage by not throwing it around too much.

Pado pitched all six innings, striking out three. Helping his own cause, Pado converted each of the nine balls hit to him into outs.-

With a runner on first in the third inning, Truckee first baseman Pettit picked up a chopper down the line, stepped on first and threw to Biederman at second to turn a double play.

Truckee is now 1-0 in the tournament.
