Truckee All Stars on a roll

The Truckee 10-and-11 Little League All Stars are proving that strong coaching and hard work bring results.-

The 10 and 11 year olds are now 2-0 in the Nevada District 1 Tournament in Gardnerville Nevada. Truckee routed Carson American 11-2 in their first game on Saturday. Offensively, Truckee was impressive with 11 hits overall, lead by Colin Gerrard with two doubles, Thor Retzlaff, Ryan Sewell and Louden Smith with two hits each and Griffin Churich, Kasey English and Riley Guiragossian each with one hit.

Truckee’s strong pitching by English, Retzlaff and Smith kept Carson to only three hits. Defensively, Truckee was virtually flawless with consistent plays by Sydnie English, Churich and Gerrard.

Game two against a very strong North Tahoe team was a nail-biter with Truckee winning 4-1. Again, Truckee defense was almost perfect with Griffin Churich again making several “big league” plays at short.-

Louden Smith was remarkable, when he came in to pitch in the top of the third inning with no outs and bases loaded and shut North Tahoe down.-

Griffin Churich and Colin Gerrard lead Truckee’s offense with two hits each, and Ryan Swell added one hit, but it was Kasey English’s fifth-inning, two RBI Triple blast that gave Truckee the cushion it needed going in to the top of the sixth.

Truckee’s 10/11 Team is coached by Pat Gerrard, Barry Churich, Elliot Mezger, Bill English and Bryan Smith.-

Truckee played North Valley, a Reno team, Monday night for a spot in the single-elimination tournament this coming weekend.
