Truckee All-Stars swept from tournament

The Truckee 11-12 All-Star team was swept out of the Nevada District 1 Little League tournament in Reno after losses to North Valleys and Reno National.

The 3-1 loss to North Valleys on Wednesday was possibly the toughest to bear since it was probably the game Truckee had the best chance to win. Truckee did out-hit North Valleys 6-3, but could not string them together to push more runs across, whereas all of North Valleys’ hits came in the fourth inning when they scored two decisive runs.

On Thursday against Reno National, Truckee faced another team familiar with the long ball. Truckee gave up another three home runs in its 11-0 loss.

Having been swept out of the tournament with an 0-4 record demonstrates Truckee’s uphill battle against the Reno teams, which have a longer season and many players who play year-round.

Jack deRyk led Truckee hitters for the tournament with five hits and a .455 batting average. Travis Ferre was second with three hits and a .429 average. Marc Biederman had two hits and led the team with a .545 on-base-percentage. Zak Pettit also had two hits in the tournament.
