Truckee alpine team in deadlock for third place

Staff reports

After completing its fourth event of the season at Kirkwood, the Truckee High School alpine ski team is tied for third in the Tahoe Basin Ski League standings.

Because Incline High School was a no-show at Wednesday’s second Giant Slalom event, Truckee was able to gain four points and tie Incline at 13.

The highest placing on the day for a Truckee competitor was Sean Jordan, who finished fifth in the boys’ division with combined time of 1:02.33 on two runs. Josh Benge was ninth. The boys finished second, two points ahead of third place South Tahoe.

For the Truckee girls, Paola Teran compiled the best time on her team (1:08.35), good for 10th place. The next best finish for a Truckee girl was Whitney Lewis, who finished in 14th place. The Truckee girls finished third behind North Tahoe and South Tahoe.

North Tahoe continued its domination in league with its third first place finish out of four events. Russell Dodge, Casey Riva and Eli Osborne finished first, second and fourth respectively. Three North Tahoe girls finished second, third and fifth. North Tahoe won the event by 29 points over South Tahoe.

Truckee finished with 294 points. It trails North Tahoe by 10 points in the standings with two regular season events to go.

Truckee hosts the next alpine event on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Alpine Meadows, starting at 10 a.m.
