Truckee Babe Ruth advances

After a disappointing loss to North Valley on July 15, Truckee Babe Ruth’s 14-15 All-Stars returned later in the day to defeat Lyon County 8-0 in a combined one-hit shutout.

Michael Taylor got the win and Miles Allen closed out the last two innings.

Brett Russon hit a double to bring in two RBIs in the fourth inning. Justin Vosburgh went 3 for 4 and scored twice, and Taylor scored two runs. Kevin Decker, Scott Mathot, Drew Deurlington and Ryan Cook scored the remaining runs for Truckee.

The following game against Fernley, the Truckee All-Stars were able to pull off a 10-2 win, allowing them a spot in the Nevada State Tournament.

Justin Vosburgh pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and no earned runs. Vosburgh also initiated a well-executed double play by throwing to shortstop Michael Taylor, who fired a bullet to first that was scooped out of the dirt by Mathot at first.

Vosburgh, Decker, Drew Deurlington and Cook scored two runs apiece while Taylor and Matt Theis each scored once.

Jarrod McDonnell caught a fly ball at second for the third out to get the team out of the sixth inning. Ricky Cooper also had a solid game in right field.

The wins allowed Truckee to advance to the Nevada State Tournament in Carson City. The tournament began Saturday and continue through Wednesday at the Governor’s Field Complex.
