Truckee Babe Ruth All-Stars advance past South Shore tournament
Truckee split its first two weekend games in the Babe Ruth 13-15 All-Star state-qualifying tournament in South Lake Tahoe.
Fernley outscored Truckee 11-9 on Saturday in its tournament opener on Saturday at Todd Fields. Truckee pushed across four runs in the first inning but didnand#8217;t score again until the fourth inning.
Truckee was led by Aaron Pado with one hit and three runs scored, Andy McKechnie with two hits and two runs, and Baird Bishop with two hits and a run.
Truckee bounced back to rout Hawthorne 16-2 in an elimination game on Sunday.
Travis Ferre and Bradley Larramendy combined to give up just three hits while striking out four.
Truckee broke it open with a nine-run second inning. Key hits were delivered by Pado, McKechnie, Timmy Cooper, Cameron Powell and Jack DeRyk. Cooper, DeRyk and McKechnie each supplied two hits. Erik Holmer socked a double and scored three runs.
Truckee won an elimination game on Sunday night against Fernley before taking down Battle Mountain, 10-9, in a thriller. Truckee trailed 5-0 in the first inning but came back to win. That advanced them to the finals Tuesday night against South Tahoe. Both teams advance to this weekendand#8217;s state finals at Governorand#8217;s Bowl in Reno (hosted by Reno West).
